Wearable Medical Drug Delivery Platform

Tone were commissioned by a global medical company to design a new wearable drug delivery medical device for a novel therapy.

The device design needed to be discreet, sustainable, adaptable for different drug volumes and, critically, intuitive to use. Working closely with global R&D teams, Tone were responsible for the device Industrial Design, User Experience and User Interface design.

Some project details remain confidential and the images shown are of a fictional device for illustrative purposes only.

Discreet Medical Device Design

Wearable drug delivery devices are typically worn for long periods of time, and often under clothes. Due to the relatively large size of these devices it is imperative that they are designed to be as discreet as possible, yet remain easy to interact with.

As the Industrial Design project experts, it was our job to address these requirements. Through careful design of the interface surface, physical interaction points and overall device form, we were able to achieve both - whilst also crafting a unique and beautiful look and feel.

Reusable. Responsible.

By seperating out re-usable electronic components from disposable drug containment systems, the device can offer significant sustainability and cost advantages.

However this also presents challenges from a design perspective. Tone's design team had to carefully consider the ergonomics and physical modes of interaction between key components to reduce user related risks.

High Quality Marketing Imagery

During the design process, Tone were able to support our client with high quality marketing imagery of their new product to support with marketing, sales and commercial efforts.

Semi-functional physical models were also produced to support discussions and bring the project to life ahead of detailed downstream engineering.
