Accelerating Post‑Operative Recovery With MedTech Wearables
MedTech Product Design is an area of particular expertise for Tone. This connected digital goniometer technology was developed by EnMovi to aid recovery at home following total knee replacement surgery, and Tone were responsible for designing all physical touchpoints of the product - including the devices, packaging and Instructions for Use.
The MedTech wearable sensors are worn either side of the knee both pre, and post surgery to help guide patients through recovery exercises at home - and allow physiotherapists to remotely monitor their client's progress.

The Challenge: Home Rehabilitation after Surgery
MedTech product design comes with myriad user related challenges, and risks. As experts in design for medical and health products, we leveraged our usability expertise to identify and mitigate against these risks throughout the development process.
But it's not all about risk reduction. With a wearable MedTech product like this, the patient experience is also crucial. As the sensors are worn on the skin for an extended period of time, it was imperative that the form and design were discreet enough to not be visible under clothes, or catch on items during day-today use. A soft, pillowed form was developed to solve this challenge, whilst also minimising the size as far as possible and working around complex design for manufacture constraints.
“Tone expertly led the Industrial Design for EnMovi’s MotionSense 2.0 wearable. With their hands-on ‘think-make-check’ approach, Tone seamlessly integrated with our internal design and engineering functions. They quickly delivered elegant and pragmatic solutions that addressed our patient’s needs and we look forward to working with them as our portfolio grows.”
